Instagram An online mobile photo sharing, video sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them on a variety of social networking platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr. It was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, and launched in October 2010 exclusively on iOS. A version for Android devices was released a year later; by January 2013, an app was available for Windows Phone devices as well. The app can be used to apply digital filters to photographs taken with either camera phones or cameras.
It’s disappointing to discover that you linked your Instagram account to the wrong Facebook account or vice versa. Thankfully, it’s possible to unlink your Instagram accounts as long as you have access to both accounts and remember your passwords. Below are some steps on how to unlink two Instagram accounts and get back on track with your social media marketing campaign.
How to Unlink Two Instagram Accounts
First, you’ll need to make sure you have access to both your accounts. If one is private and you can’t see it, you won’t be able to follow these steps. Second, open an app that lets you view your Instagram profile on a computer, like Hootsuite or Gramblr.
Third, log out of one account and log into another; then click on your username at the top of your profile page—it should say Instagram by XXXXXXX [your username] … Select Edit Profile from underneath that username and uncheck all options for sharing photos with other users. The last step is simply logging out of both accounts. Voilà! You’re done. Now only you will see your Instagram photos.
If you want to share them again, just log back in and check those boxes. And if you don’t remember which box is which, it’s okay. You’ll figure it out eventually :)…

Why Do I Want To Unlink My Instagram?
Many of us have over one Instagram account, but it can be difficult if you’re trying to share content between multiple accounts. If you need help uniting your Facebook, Twitter and other social media accounts with multiple Instagram accounts, we’ve put together a step-by-step guide that takes you through everything. This detailed post shows you how to unlink two instagram accounts.
We’ll also walk you through deleting your first Instagram profile and creating a new one in its place, so there aren’t any hiccups along the way. You’ll want to take care when unlinking your accounts because doing so will delete all previous posts, comments and likes from your original profile.
It’s also important to remember that you cannot transfer followers from one account to another—if you don’t already have at least 10K followers on either profile, starting fresh is usually best. However, once you link them back up again using our instructions below, they’ll automatically follow whichever account has more followers. Read on for details about how to do it!
- Step 1: Deactivate Your Account on One Device
First, log in to your account on your computer and navigate to your settings. Then select Account from that page and scroll down until you see Delete Your Account. Click on it. You’ll be asked for an email address associated with your account—you might need to provide a username, too—and then a verification code will be sent via email. Enter it when prompted, and you’ll have seven days before your profile is removed permanently.
(This is where having multiple devices comes in handy.) Note: If you don’t want to wait seven days, there’s also a link at the bottom of that page to deactivate your account immediately. The downside? Once deactivated, you won’t be able to reactivate your account or retrieve any of its content. So if there are any photos or videos that mean something special to you, make sure they’re backed up somewhere else first!
- Step 2: Logout on the Other Device
The other account you’re un-linking is likely logged into an app on a mobile device, such as your phone or tablet. Log out of that app by clicking on your username at the top of the screen and pressing Logout. If you don’t know where to log out, refer back to Step 1 for instructions.
You may also have multiple browser tabs open in another window. For example, if you have logged in through Facebook and then later through Google+, close all tabs except one. In most browsers you can do so by simply clicking on another tab and pressing Ctrl+W (Windows) or Cmd+W (Mac).
Do not close all browser windows because doing so will also log out from other accounts! If you do accidentally close all browser windows, go back to Step 1 for instructions. You’ll still be able to unlink your accounts because we’re about to provide additional steps for that process!
- Step 3: Completely Delete Your Account from One Device
If you are deleting your profile on an iOS device, first tap settings and then tap Instagram. If you have not already logged out of your account, a message will appear that says Log Out. Tap Log Out and then log back in with your credentials. When logging back in, make sure you have typed in a password rather than using Touch ID; otherwise, Instagram will automatically log back into your previous account.
Once signed out of one device and signed back into another, it is safe to delete any old apps from any older devices you no longer use. This ensures that no traces of your former account remain anywhere on any other device. To do so, go to iTunes or Google Play and search for Instagram. Download and install the app again as if you were downloading it for the first time. This action will also reinstall all updates, so there are no glitches or errors when signing back into your new profile on any other device.
